I spent all day waiting for my doctor's appointment. I thought time moved slowly while I was at work!! But I had training this morning and due to our genius, we got out before noon. My appointment was at 3:45 pm. The signifigance of this appointment? This was my 2nd trimester sonogram. Warm goo on my belly and a TV screen with fuzzy black and white images. Rereading that, it sounds more like a horny teenage boy's weeknight with scrambled porn. But it was awesome.
So we took a peek at Baby Durbin. And she said, right from the get-go, "That looks like a girl to me". Wow. A little girl. Visions of plush pink bedding and pigtails danced through my head. But just to be sure, she looked again. Oh wait. The cord and a hand are covering the goods. A modest baby? Was it even mine? Can you question materninty?! Anyhoo, she couldn't get a clear shot. So we checked everything else out. Head, heart, kidneys, 2 arms, 2 legs, a close-up of a teeny tiny foot with 10 toes....and a face. I didn't realize I was holding my breath. A tiny face in shades of gray. The face a little person LIVING INSIDE ME. How amazing that we live our lives and 90% of the time don't appreciate this every day miracle. I'd forgotten what seeing your unborn child as a TV star while waiting for it's arrival was like. Scott was so quiet. He was leaning against a counter a few feet away and I forgot he was even there, until he came up behind me and started rubbing my arm while I lay in the dark.
The sonographer looked and peered and repositioned for a VERY long time. I was DYING. The baby's fine. Health... check. At this point, we're determining gender. And little Durbin refuses to move the hand that hides the key. So she poked me. Yep. She held the ultrasound wand with one hand and poked my belly with the other. I watched on screen as our little one was jiggled and squeezed. Really funny to watch the cause and effect inside and out. Poor thing. After that, little legs and arms kicked and jerked. Grumpy was disturbed and then it happened. He moved his hand. Yep.....HE. God help me. I'm going to be surrounded by them. LOL.

Congratulations! And thank God the baby is a boy. I was wondering where we were going to put the baby's room if it was a girl and Trenton snuck her out of the house and gave her to us!
