DIY Distraction

I love it when the Christmas cards and letters start rolling in.  Which reminds me that I forgot to send mine out today.  Darn!  I only made 20, so if you don't get one, please don't be offended.  We wish EVERYONE a Merry Christmas... but only some people have to stare at our mugs on their fridge or whatever for the next few weeks.  :)

I finished the holiday shopping tonight.  Mostly.  There's still a few this-and-that's I need because the store was out, but mostly, I'm done.  Whew!!  Makes it easier that I told everyone we're broke and that they aren't getting anything from us.  Lol.

It's been a trying week.  The ordeal with Trenton's school nonsense just got to me.  He said something things.  Things that he, or any 6 year old child, should NOT be saying.  Things I didn't even know he knew.  But things were said, he and 2 other boys got in trouble, and I was left wondering how I became THAT mom.  The one people wonder what I'm exposing my kid to.  Which is humilating on any level, but the In School Suspension teacher, is a friend of mine.  A sorority sister, no less.  Mortifying.  To know that those people are thinking I must let him watch whatever he wants on tv or say terrible things in front of him.  Neither of which is true.  But they don't know that.  Because he learned what he said somewhere.  The obvious answer is home.  It's the wrong answer, but nevertheless, the logical conclusion.  ::Sigh::

So anyway, a really tough, discouraging, crying in the shower kinda week.

What helps nurse a broken spirit?  A project!!  It distracts the eyes, hands, and mind, anyway.

I have HGTV or DIY on tv pretty much all day.  That or cartoons.  The other day I was watching a show about Christmas decorations.  I saw a super cute ornament wreath that I figured I could make pretty inexpensively.  I journeyed over to the dollar store, got a bunch of cheap ornaments.  I picked silver, red, and a pewtery color.  I got all different sizes and types (matte, glittery, etc.).

I hot glued the ornament to the little metal cap on the top (the thing that pops off if you pull it).  Then I took a wire hanger, bent one end so the ornaments wouldn't fall off and then bent it loosely into a circle.  Then I just started putting them on the hanger, varying the size and color and type.  When I was done, I finished bending it into a circle, attached the 2 ends and voila!  It really is much cuter in person because you can see the contrast in the ornamenst and the glittery ones sparkle in the light.

I just hung it with some matching curly ribbon, but any ribbon would be cute.  I really like it.  It's so cute and was easy to make.  With hot gluing the tops and making it start to finish, it took about an hour.  And I have lots of ornaments left over.  :)
